Has your teenager been asking these questions?
Do these statements sound familiar?
"I'm starting to panic when I think of the Leaving Cert. It seems impossible! All those subjects! I'm afraid of having to spend the whole year just studying, studying, studying. I'm afraid I won't be able to relax or have any fun at all. I'm afraid of failing the exam."
"I hate it when I spend a whole afternoon trying to learn something and then the next day I can hardly remember any of it. My memory feels like a sieve! How am I ever going to remember anything?!"
"I don't know what subject to pick in college. I'm afraid I'll choose the wrong subject and be stuck studying something I hate. I don't want to be stuck in a career I hate for the rest of my life!"
"I'm too shy. People never notice me - but I would be terrified if they did. I feel that I can't make myself heard when it's really important. I'm afraid of missing opportunities and having to settle for a boring future."
"I'm worried that I don't know anything about the world of work. I have no idea how to write a CV. Who would want to hire me anyway? I'm so ordinary. I'm afraid I'll be jobless."
"I have this dream, but it's not reasonable - I'd better forget it. I should focus on finding a safe job that pays reasonably well. At least I'll be financially secure, even if I end up bored to tears."
Our SavvyTeenAcademy graduates had the same fears when the course started.
But after a week of intensive practical learning they felt so much more confident.
We asked them what they took away from the course :
"Now I know
"... how to write a good CV,
"... how to study effectively,
"... how to communicate better,
"... how to have more confidence and make friends easily,
"... how to focus,
"... how to speak in public,
"... how to manage my money..."
The #SavvyTeenAcademy is not based on the school curriculum, it is not a remedial course to improve grades in school.
But it will help students with studying - and much else besides.
Our students learn and rehearse the practical tools they will use each day, every day, to build their own successes.
They become confident that they can work to attain whatever goal they set their sights on.
And when it comes to achieving the life of their dreams - they will know exactly where to start.
What parents said :
"He is really enjoying the course and is absolutely buzzing every evening."
"For a girl who was so reluctant to go, she seems to have thoroughly enjoyed her week. Her confidence has definitely been boosted. She was delighted bringing in her CV today."
"He is sad that it's over. He got so much from it, he is enthused, excited about life and his future. It has given him permission and confidence to go for it, to believe in himself and not to put limits on himself. Thank you so much for that. It was good for him to hear this from someone other than his parents."
"She got a lot out of this. She's going back to school inspired and full of new enthusiasm."
